This exhibition tells the story of a group of people whose fate intertwined at a certain place and time. In 1983, Mr.Chaing-Hsun began sheltering a group of teenage students from the stormy art scene of 80s’ Taipei. On Dadu mountain, they began their artistic journey free of shackles of the academy by staying strongly rooted in the humanities.
It has been 30 years since then, and instead of being mindlessly buried under commercialized or mainstream “art businesses”, these students are each dedicated in the lives they have chosen; through their own experiences, they have found paths to self-fulfillment as artists and creators.
As Mr. Chiang-Hsun says,
“After these 30 years, I look at the works of my students, and realize that in education of art and aesthetics, the grades I’ve given and the diplomas they received do not count—it takes 30 years for their true transcripts to show.”
