Chinese-French abstract master Zao Wou-Ki (1920–2013) passed away in 2013, leaving behind an extraordinary artistic legacy that has been widely acclaimed around the world. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor, the Medal of the City of Paris, and the Japanese Imperial Award, and was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts of France. His works are housed in major museums and collections across the globe.

In 2017, the Asia University Museum of Modern Art joined hands with the Fondation Zao Wou-Ki and the Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation to present “The Infinite Beauty of Zao Wou-Ki: A Retrospective.” This large-scale retrospective — the first comprehensive exhibition of Zao’s work in Asia in nearly thirty years — brought together masterpieces from French and Taiwanese museums as well as significant private collections in Taiwan, including record-breaking auction pieces and works exhibited to the public for the first time.

This unprecedented exhibition offered an exceptional opportunity to explore the boundless world of Zao Wou-Ki’s art.
